The lab, set up in 1958, now is the largest
in Asia, and the second in the world.
It is equipped with 12 simulating generator
units and accessory facilities of 27 transformers and
16 synchronous and asynchronous motors.
It is capable of simulating the operation,
switching and contingence conditions for power systems
of various voltage levels.
It is mainly used for the simulation tests
of power system and checking tests of protective relay
performance. It plays an important role in the system
research and relay type selection in a number of major
power system projects, such as China's first 500 kV
AC power transmission project, first 750 kV AC power
transmission project and Tianshengqiao-Guangzhou transmission
series compensation project.
